By A / B split tests. Every reputable newsletter mailer supports split-testing.
How a split test works:
- In such a test you first send an e-mail to some recipients of his list.
- 50% of these recipients see subject “A”, 50% see subject “B”.
- If, for example, the opening rate of the e-mails with the subject “A” is higher than that of “B”, the remaining e-mail recipients receive the e-mail with the subject “A”.
Such tests are meaningful only from a recipient list of several thousand subscribers.
